Demonstration projects

The Group’s business units regularly participate in innovative demonstration projects that test new solutions.

For example, Enemærke & Petersen has participated in the award-winning Living Places project in Jernbanebyen in Copenhagen. The project shows how it is possible to build with a three times lowercarbon footprint, a healthier indoor climate and without increasing costs. MT Højgaard Property Development is responsible for developing a new housing concept for 4-1 Planet that minimises greenhouse gas emissions for a typical house.

MT Højgaard Danmark and Enemærke & Petersen are involved in a development project aimed at minimising resource consumption on construction sites. The project is led by construction knowledge centre Molio, while a broad alliance of contractors, research institutions and technology suppliers contribute with everything from specific construction sites to mapping material flows and testing new technology. The project runs until December 2025.

Certification and lifecycle analyses

With its own sustainability specialists and auditors in MT Højgaard Property Development, the Group is a strong player in certification and life cycle assessments (LCA). Statutory LCAs are carried out on all the Group’s projects with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from construction.

In 2023, 37% of the group’s revenue came from sustainability-certified or pre-certified projects. The goal is to reach 50% by 2025. One of the significant projects is the DGNB Platinum certified office building Marina Park in Copenhagen, built by MT Højgaard Denmark.

Projects that contribute to the green transition

Reuse of materials
The Group is co-owner of Genbyg, Denmark’s largest DIY store for used building materials. Building materials are being recycled on more and more of the Group’s projects. This includes Åhaven in Odense, where Enemærke & Petersen has ensured the reuse of 100 kitchens and four tonnes of glulam in connection with the renovation.

Building transformation
A larger and larger part of the Group’s projects are renovation and building transformation. A couple of notable projects are the transformation of Dalum Paper Factory in Odense and the Psychiatric Hospital in Aarhus into new residential areas.

Climate protection
Climate protection is increasingly included in the Group’s projects. For example, MT Højgaard Danmark is building the Valby Cloudburst Tunnel for HOFOR, which will protect parts of Copenhagen from flooding in connection with cloudbursts.
